I booked coach and business-class tickets on Amtrak trains. The upgrade wasn't worth the added price.
Briefly

I traveled on Amtrak's Maple Leaf train from NYC to Toronto, comparing coach and business-class options. Coach tickets were $100 cheaper but offered less privacy. Business-class featured more spacious seating and additional perks like complimentary drinks. Although I missed out on a business-class ticket on the Amtrak Cascades, I found coach seating comfortable enough. Both classes had similar amenities, but the business-class ticket didn't justify the higher price for just a few extra comforts, such as larger seats and minor benefits like refunds.
Coach offered less privacy with pairs of seats on either side of the aisle, but at least there were no middle seats.
A representative of the train line told Business Insider that business-class perks include more spacious seating, a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage, and full refunds for rides canceled before departure.
