St. John's star Zuby Ejiofor faces Kansas, the team 'I didn't really want to leave'
"Ejiofor: 'I had a fun time at Kansas, I wouldn't lie. I didn't really want to leave.'"
"Jayhawks coach Bill Self said: 'We love Zuby. We didn't want him to leave. We're really happy for his success.'"
"'I'm his dad, and I know how he thinks,' Philachack told The Athletic. 'One hundred percent, he wants to show Coach Self that he can play and prove to him that he made a mistake.'"
Zuby Ejiofor, a 6-foot-9 transfer from Kansas, met with St. John's coach Rick Pitino during his visit in spring 2023. Ejiofor was raised by surrogate parents, Andy and Sheena Philachack, while his biological parents lived in different countries. He faces his former team, Kansas, in a crucial NCAA Tournament matchup. Despite a challenging freshman season at Kansas, both Ejiofor and coach Bill Self express mutual respect. Andy Philachack believes Ejiofor is motivated to prove himself to Coach Self after his limited playing time at Kansas.
