SGA receives key to hometown in Ontario
"Growing up as I traveled across the world, to countless states, cities and countries people always asked where I was from. I took pride in letting everyone know I was from Hamilton. Hamilton is different from every other city in Ontario, Hamiltonians carry a different sense of grit, determination, pride and energy than the rest of the province and honestly, I couldn't shy away from that."
"When I found out I was getting a key to the city I love and a street named after me, the overwhelming joy was immense."
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was honored with the key to the city of Hamilton by Mayor Andrea Horwath at a public rally after winning the NBA championship with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Gilgeous-Alexander expressed pride in his Hamilton roots, emphasizing the unique grit and determination of the city. The Mayor also announced that a street would be named after him. Following the ceremony, he returned to Hamilton Stadium to begin the second quarter of a CFL game, further celebrating his local ties.
