Toronto Maple Leafs haven't changed enough of the culture this offseason
Briefly

The Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2025-26 season closely mirror the previous year's team, which is unsettling. Despite having star players like Matthews, Tavares, and Nylander, there is skepticism about their improvement post-Marner's departure. The belief that new players can compensate for Marner's exit is questioned. In comparison, the Florida Panthers are highlighted for their competitive edge and playoff success, whereas the Leafs struggle in critical moments. Overall, if the same players continue to perform poorly, it raises doubts about organizational effectiveness rather than a 'curse.'
When you look at the 2025-26 version of the Toronto Maple Leafs, it looks eerily similar to the 2024-25 version, which is a scary thought.
It's possible that Mitch Marner was the only problem on the Leafs and his loss will turn this team into a better playoff team, but I ultimately don't believe that is true.
Marner's departure is not enough. I know that Matthews is a former Hart Trophy winner, Tavares is a consistent point per game player and Nylander scored 40 goals last year.
When things get tough, the Panthers battle back and win in the biggest games, which is something the Leafs can't do.
