Philadelphia Flyers hire former long-time player Rick Tocchet as new head coach
Briefly

Rick Tocchet, a former NHL player and coach, has been named the 25th head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, just 15 days after parting ways with the Vancouver Canucks. He takes over from John Tortorella, who had struggled to lead the team, failing to make the playoffs during his three seasons. Tocchet, with previous coaching stints including the Tampa Bay Lightning and Arizona Coyotes, brings experience and a strong reputation for developing players. General manager Daniel Briere lauded Tocchet's success and ability to inspire both young talents and seasoned players alike.
I am very happy to welcome Rick Tocchet as our head coach. During this process it became clear that Rick was the absolute right coach to lead our team.
Under Tortorella, the Flyers posted a 97-107-33 record, missing the playoffs all three years of his stint with the team.
