Paul Maurice on the difference in the Leafs' play under Craig Berube: "There is more patience... It is a bit more of a mature game"
Briefly

Ahead of Game 1, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice addressed the Maple Leafs' evolution under Craig Berube. He noted a significant personnel shift and the emergence of a more mature, patient style of play compared to prior years. Maurice also discussed the relative importance of home-ice advantage in today's NHL, suggesting it has diminished due to structural changes in the game. He reflected on the impact of rule changes that have facilitated younger, skilled players' impact. Additionally, he commented on the meaning of Mitch Marner welcoming a new baby and shared his past experiences with goalie Anthony Stolarz.
Personnel would be one thing. It is quite a bit of a different-looking team. There are different names on the backend. I think there is more patience in their game.
I don't feel it is as important as it used to be. Some of it goes to the change and the structure of teams. All of the rule changes in '06 allowed younger, faster, more skilled players to come in.
