Michael Pezzetta comes up clutch again, Toronto Marlies head home with a 2-0 series lead in Eastern Conference Final
Game 2 featured low scoring and tight margins, with Toronto and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton trading periods of control but being stymied by two young Russian goaltenders who combined for 70 saves. Toronto produced its best playoff performance to date and again found a way to win. Early, Cédric Paré’s slot turnover led to a hooking penalty, but Ryan Tverberg’s shift drew a penalty and helped negate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s power play. Joona Koppanen nearly scored shorthanded, forcing Artur Akhtyamov into a top-drawer save. Toronto’s new third line, Sim–Haymes–Tverberg, generated chances, and a power-play goal opened the scoring through coordinated movement and passing that created a seam.
"“It was one of our better games, I thought. Over 60 minutes, we did a lot of good things. We were better tonight than we were in Game 1. We have to bottle up a lot of what we did there and use it. We have to realize that, at the end of the day, it will still be a grind. We don't expect anything else. We know how good this team is. But I think we did a lot of good things that we can show regarding how we had success tonight. That will be important.”"
