The Oshawa Generals triumphed over the Barrie Colts 3-1 in the Eastern Conference Final's first game, breaking the Colts' home-winning streak in the playoffs. Both Colts' coach Marty Williamson and captain Beau Jelsma were unhappy with the team's start, as Oshawa outshot Barrie 14-8 in the first period, which ended scoreless. Owen Griffin scored the opening goal after a pivotal play by Simon Wang to secure the lead for Oshawa. Additionally, Sam Dickinson of the London Knights contributed significantly to his team's win in the Western Conference Final, with four points against Kitchener.
It's a game of inches, and it just didn't go our way tonight. There is going to be no quit in this team, we will come back and get the bounces to go our way.
He [Wang] has been a big piece on the back end. It was a very athletic play to bail out Oster, and then we go the other way and Griffin cashes it in.
Owen Griffin's development into an elite scoring threat started in the second half of the OHL season and has come to fruition in the postseason.
In 13 playoff games, he's scored 12 goals and added eight assists for 20 points.
