Craig Berube on the Leafs' slow start in a brutal Game 5 performance: "It is hard to explain it... We all have to be better, myself included"
Briefly

Head coach Craig Berube expressed frustration after the Maple Leafs' 6-1 defeat by the Panthers, emphasizing the poor start made by his team. He noted that in the first period, the Panthers outperformed his players in speed and determination, setting an unfavorable tone for the game. Berube acknowledged that all team members, including himself, needed to improve, and he reflected on the mistakes made during the match. While he recognized the need for top players to produce, he downplayed the idea that line changes would have altered the outcome.
In the first period, they out-skated us. They had the puck and won the races. We played slowly. They were fast and on us. They were hungrier.
We all have to be better, myself included. You can't start the game that way. That is a big thing for me.
For me, mistakes happen in games, but it is the way they happened tonight that is disappointing, more than anything.
Tonight wasn't a good game for anybody - anybody. All of us.
