Ben Danford anticipates a big summer of training as he eyes spot on Maple Leafs
"I thought I was pretty consistent throughout the year at being able to absorb contact, be able to scan and make plays with clean exits."
Ben Danford, Toronto’s 2024 first-round draft pick, is targeting an NHL role next season as his junior career ends after the Hamilton Bulldogs’ Game 7 loss in the Eastern Conference Finals. He played 45 OHL games across the Oshawa Generals and Bulldogs after a mid-season trade, totaling three goals and 17 assists with a minus-two plus-minus. In 13 playoff games, he added one goal and two assists. Danford earned a spot on Canada’s World Junior roster, played all seven games, recorded one assist, and helped Canada win bronze. He said he improved defensively, wants more offensive confidence, and plans a major summer to work on all aspects of his game. He also emphasized his breakout first pass, contact absorption, scanning, and clean exits.
