Yohendrick Pinango has put the pressure on every one else in the Blue Jays lineup
"Piñango's latest heroics came in the top of the seventh inning on Saturday (May 16) against the Detroit Tigers when the 24-year-old rookie blasted a ball down the right field line that went over the wall for his first big league home run."
"After Saturday's game, Piñango is hitting .364/.404/.477 with a 152 wRC+. Surely, he can't post these kinds of numbers all season, but then again, this is the kind of hitter Piñango has proven himself to be over the last few years in the minor leagues."
"It took him a few season's to get used to playing in High-A in the Chicago Cubs system. But in 2024, at 22-years-old, Piñango figured it out and 29 games into the year he was hitting .340/.451/.610. The numbers dropped when he got moved up to Double-A, and that year he was traded to Toronto, in a deal that is already a win for the Blue Jays, and again struggled in the 33 games with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, hitting .179/.244/.274."
"The following year he made the adjustment, crushed it through the first 49 games of the season hitting .298/.406/.522 and was then moved up to Triple-A. Again the numbers came down with the Buffalo Bisons, and through 84 games in the second half of 2025, he slashed .235/.335/.379. This past offseason allowed Piñango to adjust once again and through the first 22 games of 2026, he took Triple-A pitching for a ride by hitting .288/.370/.488, which earned him a call up to The Show."
Yohendrick Piñango of the Toronto Blue Jays delivered an early impact in his first 15 Major League games. In a game against the Detroit Tigers on May 16, he hit his first big league home run, driving a ball down the right field line over the wall in the seventh inning. After that game, he was hitting .364/.404/.477 with a 152 wRC+. His performance has followed a pattern of adjustment after promotions through the minor leagues. He struggled at High-A early, improved in 2024, then faced declines at Double-A and Triple-A. After each move, he eventually adapted and produced stronger results, leading to his 2026 call-up.
