"If you were driving around Toronto Saturday and checked Google Maps for the fastest route, you may have seen the Don Valley Parkway was closed. The only problem: it wasn't. Just before noon, the City of Toronto said in a post on X that staff had been getting reports that Google Maps was erroneously showing the east end highway was closed."
""Just to confirm, all lanes on the DVP are currently open!" the post said. "We're working to get this error rectified." #TrafficAlertTO We've been receiving reports that Google Maps is showing the DVP as being closed. Just to confirm, all lanes on the DVP are currently open! Whether you are heading to the Jays game or Nuit Blanche later today, the DVP is clear and ready for your drive. We're—@cityoftoronto"
"One Reddit user posted online Saturday to say he was wondering why traffic was so light on the DVP during his drive downtown. They said they "hardly braked, and arrived earlier than normal" by about 20 minutes. "Glad I didn't use [Google Maps] today," they said in the post. While Google Maps showed the Don Valley Parkway was closed Saturday, the city said it's been open all day."
Google Maps erroneously indicated the Don Valley Parkway was closed for part of Saturday while the highway remained open. Just before noon, the City of Toronto posted on X that staff had been receiving reports of the incorrect closure display and confirmed all lanes on the DVP were open. The city said staff were working to correct the mapping error and advised drivers that the DVP was clear. A Reddit user reported unusually light traffic and a roughly 20-minute faster commute, saying they "hardly braked" and arrived earlier than normal. A Google spokesperson said the company was aware of the issue and actively working to resolve it.
