The Blue Jays season could be decided by two of Ross Atkins' biggest moves
"But here there are and it's thanks in part to a couple of shrewd moves by GM Ross Atkins, including the acquisitions of Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber. Now, with their backs against the wall, the fate of the Blue Jays season rests on the shoulders of these two household names - guys that may only be wearing Blue Jays jerseys for one season or less."
"Bieber and Scherzer are arguably two of the biggest named players that Atkins has ever brought in to Toronto. Scherzer is a future Hall of Famer and Bieber, before his Tommy john surgery, was a legit ace of Cleveland and still in his prime. Both are slated to start the next two games for Toronto and these are easily the two biggest games the Blue Jays have played since the 2016 ALCS, a series they fell in five games to the Guardians."
The Blue Jays rebounded from a poor 2024 and deadline selloff to win their division and reach the 2025 ALCS. Key acquisitions Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber, both short-term additions, now shoulder the team’s postseason hopes. Toronto trails the Mariners 2-0 in the ALCS and Bieber will start Game 3 as the club seeks its first win of the series. Bieber was acquired for pitching prospect Khal Stephens and posted a 4-2 record with a 3.57 ERA, 37 strikeouts and seven walks in 40.1 regular-season innings for Toronto.
