Report: Veteran reliever Matt Bowman agrees to minors deal with Blue Jays
Toronto agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran right-handed reliever Matt Bowman, who will report to Triple-A Buffalo once official. Bowman, turning 35, pitched for Minnesota’s Triple-A affiliate with a 1.69 ERA and 2.91 FIP over 21.1 innings, striking out 26 batters while walking six. He requested a release after the Twins’ big-league club could not accommodate his call-up request. Bowman last appeared in the majors in 2025 with the Baltimore Orioles, posting a 6.20 ERA and 4.76 FIP across 20 appearances. He has been used as a multi-inning “bulk arm” since his prospect days as a starter, and is now stretched for 2–3 inning outings. His pitch mix includes a low-90s sinker, sweeper, splitter, cutter, and four-seamer, supporting a strong ground-ball rate.
"During his prospect days with the New York Mets, Bowman climbed through the minors as a traditional starting pitcher. But ever since then, he's been featured as a multi-inning reliever - also known as a bulk arm - and is currently stretched out for 2-3 inning outings as he joins the Bisons' staff."
