The Blue Jays temporarily moved left-hander Eric Lauer to the bullpen after acquiring Shane Bieber at the trade deadline. Lauer will be available out of the bullpen this weekend and the move is described as flexible and not permanent. The team plans to start Bieber on Friday, José Berríos on Saturday and Kevin Gausman on Sunday, with rotation roles subject to week-to-week adjustment. Lauer credits the coaching staff for transparency during the transition. Lauer has an 8-2 record, a 2.76 ERA, 88 strikeouts and leads the staff in WAR at 2.7. The rotation overall has a 5.7 WAR, a 4.35 ERA and ranks 28th in HR/9 at 1.55.

"It's going to be a fluid situation," said Schneider after the decision about Lauer was made. "It definitely doesn't take him out of starting contention going forward."
"It's been kind of an ongoing conversation. They just wanted to be very transparent with what was going on," said Lauer. "the best kind of transition from all the guys in the rotation."
