""I have been clear that the governance changes being considered are regarding the role of elected school board trustees," he wrote Monday in a statement."
""I've been making the case from the beginning that supervision hurts kids," de Domenico said in an interview."
""It hurts students, and it's clearly gotten under his skin.""
Education Minister Paul Calandra has placed five Ontario school boards, including the Toronto Catholic District School Board, under government supervision for alleged mismanagement. Supervisors are reviewing trustee expenses after claims surfaced for items such as a $145 Apple watch band, a $15 milkshake and late-night fast-food orders. Calandra has signalled a broader rethink of school board governance, said he cannot see returning supervised boards to trustees, and is examining eliminating the trustee position while denying plans to abolish school boards entirely. TCDSB Chair Markus de Domenico defends his expenses and says supervision harms students and targets outspoken trustees.
