Mayor Olivia Chow has initiated a review of Toronto's snow clearing and removal operations, citing the unacceptable condition of the city's sidewalks and roads following recent winter storms. Frustrated with unfulfilled claims of complete sidewalk clearing, Chow has reached out to city officials to assess and optimize winter maintenance practices. The review could involve renegotiating contracts for snow removal services. Additionally, the Toronto Transit Commission is addressing transit issues caused by snow accumulation, as public safety and transportation efficiency are primary concerns.
"It is obvious that the sidewalk is not 100 per cent plowed. I don't know what percentage is, but claiming that 100 per cent is plowed is blatantly untrue."
"This is just unacceptable. We need to do more. We need to do better. All Torontonians deserve to move around the city safely."
