Man who said he'd been carjacked after fatal Vaughan hit and run sentenced to 5 years | CBC News
"A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison and a 15-year driving prohibition after a hit and run that killed a teenager in Vaughan in 2024, York Regional Police say. In a news release issued Tuesday, investigators said Vaughan man Harnoor Chauhan was sentenced this week after pleading guilty in September to dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop after an accident causing death and public mischief in the death of a 16 year old."
"Police say the teen, who was riding a mini-bike at the time of the incident, was hit by Chauhan's Mercedes-Benz around 10:45 p.m. on May 21 of that year, in the area of Forest Drive and Dunstan Crescent. Chauhan fled the scene and the teen was later pronounced dead, police say. Not long after the crash, police were called to a nearby location, where Chauhan reported that his vehicle had been carjacked. Following a thorough investigation, officers determined the carjacking was a false report and the complainant was identified as the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run, the news release reads."

York police reminded motorists of their legal and ethical obligation to remain at the scene of any collision.
