Leafs practice notes: Nicolas Roy ruled out vs. Blues, Troy Stecher makes strong 1st impression
"Character stands out to me, effort. I thought he had a good practice today. He plays hard. He's a compete guy. He competes on everything and plays a pretty simple game."
"Excited for a fresh start. Obviously, seeing the team and how competitive they are and where they are on standards. I know it'd be a motivated group that I'll be joining. It kind of goes hand-in-hand with the way I play. It's a lot of motivation and I have a chip on my shoulder,"
Coach Craig Berube stopped drills repeatedly during practice to emphasize instruction and shuffled lines ahead of Tuesday's game. Nicolas Roy will miss the game with an upper-body injury. Scott Laughton skated but remains unavailable. Auston Matthews has not skated since sustaining a lower-body injury on November 11. Brandon Carlo was placed on injured reserve retroactive to November 13, and forward Jacob Quillan was recalled from the AHL Toronto Marlies. Quillan had two goals and 14 points in 14 Marlies games and practiced with Matias Maccelli and Bobby McMann. Troy Stecher, claimed off waivers from Edmonton, practiced and wore No. 28.
