It's not urgent, but the Blue Jays should consider signing Trey Yesavage to a contract extension this offseason
"He had two outings that stood out in this most recent postseason run, the first being his ALDS start against the Yankees, where he went 5 1/3 innings and didn't allow a single hit on 78 pitches. He had just one walk and 11 strikeouts to his credit before he was pulled with the no-hitter still intact. The second outing was his second start of the World Series, taking the mound for Game 5 on the road in Los Angeles."
"It was an impressive debut for Yesavage, who used his plus fastball and splitter to generate a ton of whiffs with his over-the-top arm action. Not only did he take the world by storm in the minor leagues, but he's a draft success story for a Blue Jays organization that desperately needed a pitcher to emerge and take a stranglehold on a rotation spot. Because of his play, Yesavage should be pencilled in for a rotation spot next season."
Trey Yesavage, a first-round pick in 2024, progressed from Single-A Dunedin to the major leagues during 2025 after 25 minor-league appearances (22 starts). He debuted with the Blue Jays in September and became a postseason strikeout option. In the ALDS he threw 5 1/3 no-hit innings on 78 pitches with one walk and 11 strikeouts before being removed. In the World Series he held the Dodgers to three hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out 12 in Game 5. He features a plus fastball and splitter with over-the-top arm action and should be pencilled into next season's rotation. The organization must consider whether to extend him before arbitration.
