Fourth female complainant testifying at sexual assault trial of Frank Stronach | CBC News
"Stronach, 93, faces a total of 12 charges, including sexual assault and forcible confinement. Two of the counts, rape and attempted rape, are considered historical charges as they were abolished when the Criminal Code was amended in 1983 to create the offence of sexual assault. Stronach is also set to face a separate trial in Newmarket, Ont., later this year after the case was split into two proceedings."
"She told court that after having dinner with Stronach at the restaurant establishment he owned back then, she accepted an invitation to go back to his apartment. Once in the apartment, Stronach disappeared for a brief time, she said. The next thing she knew, he was behind her pushing her over the well-padded arm of a chair, trying to rape her, she said."
Frank Stronach, 93, faces 12 charges including sexual assault and forcible confinement in a judge-alone Toronto trial overseen by Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy. Two counts of rape and attempted rape are historical charges linked to pre-1983 law changes. The allegations by seven women span 1977–1990, with all complainants expected to testify and the case split so Stronach will face a separate Newmarket trial later this year. A woman in her 70s testified that Stronach attempted to rape her in a midtown Toronto apartment in 1977, describing being pushed over a well-padded chair but not penetrated. Defense counsel Leora Shemesh challenged prior statements and police interviews during cross-examination.
