Toronto's public transit system, the TTC, will stop accepting legacy tickets, tokens, and day passes after Sunday as part of its fare modernization efforts. This change, initially set for December 31, has been extended to give riders additional time to use their old fare media. Fewer than one percent of riders currently utilize these methods, highlighting the shift toward digital payments like PRESTO cards. Transit advocate Steve Munro recognizes the historical significance of this change, likening it to the loss of other analog items in the digital age.
After this Sunday, passengers will need to use PRESTO cards, debit or credit cards, or cash to pay fares as Toronto phases out legacy transport payment methods.
Transit advocate Steve Munro notes that while fewer than one percent of customers still use the analog fare options, their discontinuation marks the loss of a historical aspect of the city.
