Tommy Pham of the Pittsburgh Pirates bat-flipped a walk against Blue Jays pitcher Brendon Little, then turned and angrily confronted catcher Tyler Heineman, prompting both benches to clear before cooler heads prevailed. Pham continued postgame by posting inflammatory messages on social media and accused Addison Barger, which angered many Toronto fans who voiced displeasure online. The incident drew comparisons to Rougned Odor’s 2016 altercation with José Bautista, a moment that made Odor one of the most hated players in recent Blue Jays history. Pham is a 37-year-old veteran with 12 major-league seasons, making such antics seem immature given his experience.
When it comes to one of the most hated players in recent Toronto Blue Jays history, no one comes close to the "legendary" Rougned Odor. During his time with the Texas Rangers he was a heat magnet for Toronto fans. After all, Odor was the one that engaged one of the Jays' most beloved figures in José Bautista in a punch fest after a sliding play at second base back on May 15, 2016.
Now almost a decade later, it appears as though Tommy Pham of the Pittsburgh Pirates wants to challenge Odor for that elusive title. On Monday night, Pham, in one of the silliest moments of the season, did a bat-flip on a walk issued by Jays' pitcher Brendon Little. Pham, unprompted, proceeded to turn around and blew up at Blue Jays catcher Tyler Heineman, which ultimately triggered both teams' benches to clear to diffuse the animosity.
Pham didn't stop there though as postgame, he actually went onto social media to add a few more jabs at the Jays, in particular directing a blatant accusation on Addison Barger in the process. That, of course, enraged many of the Toronto faithful with people taking to social media to pronounce their dissatisfaction with Pham's words. Back in 2016 when Odor was a rising star with the Rangers, he was just 22 -years-old and had displayed the ability to average 30+ home runs and 90+ RBIs a season.
