Frank Stronach, 93, faces 12 charges including sexual assault and forcible confinement. Two counts, rape and attempted rape, are historical charges abolished when the Criminal Code was amended in 1983 to create the offence of sexual assault. The judge-alone trial is overseen by Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy. The case was split, and Stronach faces a separate trial in Newmarket later this year. Allegations by seven women in Toronto span 1977 to 1990, with one incident specified in Scarborough. A complainant who had worked for Stronach alleged a 1981 assault in a Toronto condo and was the first to testify. Stronach has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
