Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie aimed to shift seats from PC to Liberal in Peel Region, but failed to secure her own riding of Mississauga-East Cooksville in a surprising provincial election held a year early. Despite tight races and a few ridings too close to call, the Progressive Conservatives dominated the area, with Premier Doug Ford and NDP Leader Marit Stiles each winning their respective ridings. Stiles expressed a commitment to holding the PC government accountable on vital issues post-election.
I know tonight isn't exactly the result we were looking for, but you should be very, very proud of what we did tonight.
While acknowledging that supporters might be disappointed with the Ontario election results, NDP Leader Marit Stiles congratulated Doug Ford on his victory.
