Blue Jays prospect Mason Davenport discusses signing his first pro contract and preparation for 2026
"It was surreal... kind of hard to believe all at the same time. It went from zero to 100 really quick, but it was a very surreal experience. Just eight minutes after that initial phone call from his agent, he was a Toronto Blue Jay."
"I remember in my junior year realizing, 'hey, I'm actually good at this'. I was blessed with the opportunity to be scouted by many D1 schools and ended up committing to Stetson."
"I started to press too much mentally and questioned myself: Am I good enough? Overall, I was trying to be too perfect. The biggest thing is having confidence in yourself on the mound."
A 21-year-old right-handed pitcher from Tonganoxie, Kansas, stands just one inch shorter than the tallest player in MLB history. His path to professional baseball was challenging, marked by early struggles at Tonganoxie High School, junior college play, and eventual recruitment to Stetson University. His breakthrough came during his junior and senior years of high school, when he earned All-State honors and led his team to the 4A State Championship in 2022. After receiving a call from the Toronto Blue Jays, he had only 15 minutes to decide, during which the San Diego Padres also contacted him. He signed with Toronto just eight minutes after the initial call. Davenport credits his success to developing confidence on the mound and overcoming mental barriers about perfectionism.
