"Chad Dallas was excellent in his first minor league start since July 21, 2024. 3 IP, 3 H, ER, 0 BB, 5 Ks on 58 pitches. The Buffalo Bisons right-hander had his sweeper going today, putting up a 42% CSW rate and getting three of his strikeouts with the pitch."
"He remains buried on the depth chart (when everyone is healthy) and still needs to build his elbow back up to handling a starter's workload, but so far, Dallas is checking every possible box on his road to The Show."
"There should be no expectation of seeing Dallas in Toronto in 2026. Even in Buffalo, the team's rotation options consist of Jake Bloss, Ricky Tiedemann, and Adam Macko. This is purely a year about recovery and getting back on track."
"Come 2027, though, things could be different. Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, Eric Lauer, and Shane Bieber are all due for free agency, while Jose Berrios will almost certainly be in a different situation."
Chad Dallas, a 2021 fourth-round pick, is recovering from Tommy John surgery and had impressive results in spring training. He struck out six batters in two appearances before being reassigned to Triple-A Buffalo. In his first minor league start since July 2024, he pitched three innings, allowing one run and striking out five. Although he is currently buried on the depth chart, Dallas is on track for a potential role in the Blue Jays' rotation in 2027 as several current pitchers face free agency.
