"Kirk will obviously start for Mexico, as he's one of the best catchers in baseball. After breaking onto the scene in 2022, posting a 129 wRC+ while hitting 14 home runs, Kirk hit below average in both 2023 and 2024 while having superb defence. In 2025, the catcher figured it all out. Over 506 plate appearances, the 27-year-old slashed .282/.348/.421 with 15 home runs, finishing with a 116 wRC+ and a 4.7 fWAR."
"On the defensive side of things, Kirk had 9 Defensive Runs Saved and 22 Fielding Run Value, the best in the league for any position. Of course, Kirk was robbed of a Gold Glove for the third consecutive season. Kirk had a strong postseason as well, hitting two home runs in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series in a win over their hated rivals, the New York Yankees."
Alejandro Kirk has been named to Team Mexico's roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic in March. He was named to the 2023 roster but withdrew due to the birth of his child and is now set to make his Team Mexico debut. Kirk will be Mexico's starting catcher. He broke out in 2022 with a 129 wRC+ and 14 home runs, then hit below average in 2023–24 while remaining a superb defender. In 2025 he slashed .282/.348/.421 with 15 home runs, a 116 wRC+, 4.7 fWAR, 9 DRS and 22 Fielding Run Value. He produced strong postseason numbers, including two homers in Game 1 of the ALDS. Group B play in Houston includes Italy, Great Britain, and Brazil, and Kirk will face Clement on March 9.
