"Construction on one of the city's major intersections began Monday, kicking off weeks of public transit diversions that some Torontonians say are already making life inconvenient. The Dufferin Street and King Street W. intersection will be closed until mid-November to restore aging streetcar tracks, according to a release from the City of Toronto. The intersection will be fully closed to vehicles and cyclists, though accessible entryways and walkways will remain open. Work is set to take place around the clock and any disruptions will be communicated as early as possible, the city said in its release."
"The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) began diversions to the impacted routes on Sunday, including the 29/329 Dufferin and 923 Dufferin Express buses, as well as the 503 Kingston Road, 504/304 King and 508 Lakeshore streetcars. TTC spokesperson Stuart Green told CBC Toronto the repairs are needed due to the complexity of the major intersection. "It's a four-way intersection for us. There are switches, there's curved rail, so all of that takes some additional wear and tear," he said Monday."
"During construction, the 503 streetcar will run between King Street W. at Joe Shuster Way and Bingham Loop. The 504A and the 508 streetcars will transition to Queen Street W. between Shaw Street and Roncesvalles Avenue, while the 504B route will continue to end at Bathurst Street. The 29 Dufferin bus will divert to King Street W. at Joe Shuster Way via Queen Street West and Shaw Street both ways. The 929 Dufferin Express route will be shortened to Queen Street W. The TTC said in its release that Wheel-Trans service will remain accessible in all areas where local traffic is permitted. The 402 Parkdale community bus service will also continue to operate on its regular route."
