All the Blue Jays had to do was this stunningly cheap offer for David Bedmar
Briefly

The Toronto Blue Jays made moderate acquisitions, including Seranthony Dominguez and Shane Bieber, but failed to secure major talent like David Bednar from the Pirates. Pittsburgh traded Bednar to the Yankees for prospects Rafael Flores, Edgleen Perez, and Brian Sanchez, which was less than expected. Toronto could have matched or bettered this offer, providing prospects Yohendrick Pinango, Edward Duran, and Sam Shaw. The Blue Jays' farm system is weaker, yet they possessed enough talent to make a competitive offer for Bednar.
The Toronto Blue Jays had a bit of an underwhelming deadline, acquiring Seranthony Dominguez, Shane Bieber, Ty France, and Louie Varland. While those are solid pickups, General Manager Ross Atkins needed to do much more with this market and one of the big names that he missed out on was David Bednar.
The headliner of that deal was Rafael Flores, the Yankees 8th best prospect per MLB Pipeline. He appears to help Pittsburgh as their catching room is really weak, yet he was not the top five organizational prospect the team was reportedly after.
The bigger issue with this is that it was extremely affordable for the Blue Jays. Toronto obviously has a weaker farm system, yet they had what it took to do that trade.
Pirates' fans probably would not like this return either, yet if this is what that front office was after, Toronto definitely could have gotten something like this.
