3 non-roster invites to watch during Blue Jays Spring Training
"There's a lot of hype surrounding the defending American League champions. The pitching staff received significant improvements with the additions of Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers. The offense additions were minimal, with only Kazuma Okamoto added. For a third straight offseason, the Blue Jays missed out on adding the top free agent. This time, it was Kyle Tucker, but they also missed out on re-signing Bo Bichette and adding Cody Bellinger."
"With the few offensive additions, the Blue Jays will be counting on their in-house options. The Blue Jays' roster is pretty set, but there are a few minor leaguers to keep an eye on this season. The team announced its Spring Training non-roster invites on Wednesday. There were 20 players on the list with eight pitchers, four catchers, seven infielders, and one outfielder. Out of that list, here are three players that fans should get familiar with."
"Nimmala is the Blue Jays' number three prospect and the 68th MLB prospect. The prospect was the 20th overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft. Nimmala is not projected to make his big league debut until 2028, but the invite will give the team a look at how he can handle the highest level of competition. The 20-year-old played all of last season at the High-A level, where he slashed .224/.313/.381, and hit 13 home runs, scored 70 runs, and drove in 61 runs."
Spring training opens with pitchers and catchers reporting to Dunedin, Florida on February 11, the full roster reporting on February 16, and the first game on February 21 against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Blue Jays improved their pitching with Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers while adding only Kazuma Okamoto on offense. The club missed out on Kyle Tucker, failed to re-sign Bo Bichette, and did not add Cody Bellinger. With the roster largely set, the organization will rely on in-house options and 20 non-roster invitees, including shortstop Arjun Nimmala, a 20-year-old High-A prospect who slashed .224/.313/.381 with 13 home runs, 70 runs and 61 RBIs and is projected to debut in 2028.
