2025 Blue Jays could be on their way of replicating the 2007 Mets
"The 2007 Mets collapse is one of the worst in sports history. At one point in September, the Mets had a seven-game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East Division. Then, the Mets lost 12 of their last 17 games and the Phillies got hot to win the division on the final day of the 2007 season and the Mets would watch the 2007 postseason from home."
"The Blue Jays took the AL East Division lead on July 3 after a four-game series sweep of the Yankees at Rogers Centre. From that point on, the Blue Jays have held the division lead ever since. At one point that lead was at 6.5 games, but entering Wednesdays action the Blue Jays' lead for the division was down to just 2.5 over both the Yankees and Red Sox."
The Toronto Blue Jays began the season 26-28 on May 28 and later took the AL East lead on July 3 after sweeping the Yankees. The team held the division lead into early September, at one point leading by 6.5 games. Recent losses and hot streaks by the Yankees and Red Sox have trimmed the lead to about 2.5 games. The Blue Jays face critical head-to-head matchups: a multi-game series at Yankee Stadium this weekend and a three-game late-September series hosting Boston. The Blue Jays are 7-3 against Boston so far, and those remaining games could determine the division outcome.
