
"Two 17-year-olds have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after a man was found with a fatal gunshot wound in Scarborough Town Centre last week, Toronto police say. Just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 21, police responded to a call that someone had been shot at the Scarborough mall. They found a 19-year-old in a washroom suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, later identified as Daniel Amalathas, was pronounced dead at the scene."

The victim, Daniel Amalathas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators initially treated the death as suspicious and later determined it to be a homicide. Two 17-year-old boys were arrested on Thursday in connection with the investigation and have been charged with second-degree murder; they are scheduled to appear in court Friday morning. The shooting was Toronto's 27th homicide of 2025. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact police.
