""I've loved and sung 'The Skye Boat Song' since I was a young girl growing up in Aberdeen," Lennox said in a press release. "It represents such an iconic part of Scottish culture and history and it's a real honor to have been asked to record it for Outlander' s final season.""

""I've always adored this piece, and felt its well-known lyrical connection to the Jacobite Uprising would make it appropriate for this show," he wrote in 2014."
Starz released the final Outlander title sequence ahead of the show's eighth season, featuring a new performance of "The Skye Boat Song" by Annie Lennox. Lennox said she has loved and sung the song since childhood in Aberdeen and called recording it for the final season an honor tied to Scottish culture and history. Composer Bear McCreary selected Lennox and described Season 8's score as the culmination of more than a decade of work, promising musical surprises. The theme has evolved across seasons, including versions by Raya Yarbrough, a choral arrangement, and Sinéad O'Connor's Season 7 cover, and McCreary noted the song's lyrical connection to the Jacobite Uprising.
