""It's been months and months and months in the making. They had to make Drew really despicable!""
""He's hated in Port Charles, and probably in most of America," he added. "A good chunk of those people would rather have him not around, and for good reason.""
""There's just a slew of suspects," Mathison said. "It is very J.R. Ewing, it is very 'who shot J.R.-esque?' I love it, and I love being at the center of it. It's so fun for me.""
""I kind of like it like this! I have never in my 30-year career... I have been fortunate enough to do a lot of different things in my career. "I've never played a character this dark and this twisted and this much of a jerk ever, and it's a real opportunity for me, so I'm really trying to embrace it.""
Cameron Mathison lost his home in the Eaton Fire in Southern California early in 2025. General Hospital gave his character Drew Cain a prolonged, villainous arc that required months of buildup and culminates with Drew being shot, creating a major 'who done it?' cliffhanger. Numerous characters, including Carly, Sonny, Michael, Curtis, Portia and Nina, emerge as suspects, evoking the 'Who shot J.R.?' dynamic. Mathison initially resisted the dark turn and was surprised by the scripts, but he now embraces playing an unusually twisted, antagonistic role in his 30-year career and enjoys being at the center of the storyline.
