"The slow-burn success of that film, which bombed in theaters but has since become recognized as one of the greatest movies of all time, led to another Academy Award-nominated prison-based Stephen King drama, "The Green Mile," the slightly less lauded "The Majestic," and in 2007 a melding of his auteur chops and B-movie origins with yet another King adaptation, "The Mist.""
"Darabont probably could have kept trucking along with movies (and King adaptations), but instead he turned his sights on another horror adaptation, developing "The Walking Dead" for AMC and building it into a massive hit... At least before he was fired due to fights over what was later reported to be massive proposed budget cuts for the second season by the cable network."
Frank Darabont began his career writing B-movie fare including A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and 1988's The Blob. His breakthrough came with the 1994 Stephen King adaptation The Shawshank Redemption, which he wrote and directed. The film's slow-burn success led to The Green Mile, The Majestic and the King adaptation The Mist. Darabont developed The Walking Dead for AMC and built it into a massive hit before being fired amid reported fights over proposed second-season budget cuts. He created Mob City in 2013 (canceled after one season), worked as a script doctor on Godzilla, and planned a Huntsman sequel that fell apart. The Duffer brothers invited him to direct an episode.
