The Witcher Recap: Swamp Things
"As The Witcher barrels toward its season finale, an episode like this feels a bit like busywork, built less around satisfying storytelling than ensuring every character is where they need to be before the curtain call. Fortunately, this episode's thematic centerpiece (and the thing that redeems an otherwise by-the-numbers installment) is also my favorite kind of Witcher story: a dark, fairy-tale-esque monster hunt with a nice twist at the end."

Geralt and his companions choose a perilous route through the Ysgith swamp instead of war-torn roads. The group becomes prey to a mysterious creature that taunts Geralt with a distinctive giggle. The assault escalates into vivid hallucinations of Yennefer and Ciri attempting to comfort each other as they die in the swamp. The antagonist reveals itself as two rusalka: a mischievous child spirit and a desperate mother craving warmth and love. Geralt follows witcher practice by demanding and solving a riddle to put the rusalka to rest. The riddle's solution echoes Geralt's personal journey.
