The Last Of Us Season 3 "Will Be Longer" According To Showrunner
Briefly

Season 3 of The Last of Us will be longer than Season 2 and more comparable to Season 1 in length and scope. Production planning considered the full story arc beyond Season 2 to ensure continuity and proper narrative progression. Neil Druckmann has departed the series, but his absence is not expected to cause drastic changes to the show's production. Production workflow included significant consultation with Naughty Dog during Seasons 1 and 2, and much of the writing occurred in Canada with a single lead writer handling scripts. Season 3 will center on Abby's storyline with a larger role for Kaitlyn Dever, and HBO plans to release the season in 2027.
Season 3 will be longer than Season 2. Season 3 will be more on par with Season 1. More bang for the buck.
"I was pretty much a monk just writing in a room by myself for most of the time regardless," said Mazin. "And I've gotten so much out of talking with [Naughty Dog] over the course of Seasons 1 and 2. When we made Season 2, we really were thinking about what comes after because you can't really tell half of that story without thinking about what the whole story should be. So we really did get that work in. Neil's always had a full-time job running Naughty Dog, so it's always been me up in Canada [where the production is], and ultimately, things are pretty much going to proceed as usual."
