Taylor Hale progressed from Miss Michigan to competing at Miss USA 2021 and then winning Big Brother 2022, which launched a television career including appearances on The Amazing Race. Hale publicly alleged sexual harassment by Max Sebrechts, who was vice president of Miss USA when she competed; Sebrechts denied the allegations. Hale hesitated to return to pageants but agreed to host Miss Teen USA and encountered enthusiastic Gen Z contestants who view pageant experience as a path to influence. Hale used coded references to Sebrechts and Crystle Stewart while on Big Brother and believes pageant contestants can become modern influencers.
