'Task' Ending, Explained: What Happened In the Season Finale?
"Perry winds himself up to skewer Jayson with a kitchen knife out at their cabin, but he can't go through with it. Killing Jayson would also mean that Perry failed to keep him safe. Meanwhile, the police finally find Eryn's body. She's clutching Perry's metal chain, which also happens to have his initials etched into them. Absolute idiot. Jayson flips the script and stabs Perry while he's bathing in the creek."
"If you ask me, last week's Task episode felt like the season finale. The idea that we're watching another hour of this HBO crime drama without Robbie (Tom Pelphrey)no matter how stellar this series has been week after weekis hard to stomach. That said, I understand that creator Brad Ingelsby has a few plot threads to wrap up. Our fallen favorites deserve justice."
Robbie is absent from the finale, making another episode without him difficult to accept despite strong series performances. Brad Ingelsby ties up remaining plot threads and seeks justice for fallen characters. The Dark Hearts (Sam Keeley and Jamie McShane) and Anthony Grasso (Fabien Frankel) come under pursuit from Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo). Perry and Jayson remain fugitives after killing a federal agent, leading to a violent confrontation in which Jayson stabs Perry by a creek. Eryn's body is discovered clutching Perry's chain with his initials. The finale reads like an epilogue, offering closure while provoking strong emotional responses.
