"Did Maya (Hawke) want to die, Ross, or am I making that up?"
"I really shouldn't have done any of these postmortem interviews,"
"I'm not in a good place. Like, why the hell we did any of them yesterday is beyond me. I'm like, fried. I'm getting over the flu, you know. So anyone mad at any answers we gave yesterday, just give me a break. cut me some slack."
Matt Duffer expressed regret about participating in postmortem interviews following the Stranger Things finale. The Duffers spoke in an interview with Josh Horowitz, during which Matt asked whether Maya Hawke wanted her character to die and Ross suggested Matt might be making that up. Matt said his brain felt fried and that he was getting over the flu. He said he should not have done the interviews and asked for leniency from anyone upset by their answers. Vocal fan backlash to the finale and the rapid succession of press obligations contributed to creative exhaustion during the press tour.
