Stephen Colbert Sets Date for Final Episode of The Late Show
"May 21, 2026,"
"Mark your calendars."
"No way"
"Those Swiss guards would take that halberd and just take you down. In their big pantaloons and everything."
Stephen Colbert will conclude The Late Show on May 21, 2026, at the Ed Sullivan Theater. Seth Meyers plans to attend and will dedicate an episode of his own show to be there for the final goodbye. Colbert hopes to book Pope Leo XIV as a dream guest before the finale. Colbert previously organized comedians to meet Pope Francis and once flew by helicopter to JFK to reach Vatican City in time. Seth Meyers declined that Vatican trip. Colbert joked about the Swiss Guards' halberds and their distinctive pantaloons.
