"The conservative media group, which owns 38 local TV stations across the country, initially pulled Kimmel's late-night show off the air last Wednesday following comments he made about the murder of Charlie Kirk. The action taken by Sinclair, along with fellow affiliate group Nexstar-widely believed to have been in response to pressure from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr-prompted ABC to temporarily suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live!."
"Our objective throughout this process has been to ensure that programming remains accurate and engaging for the widest possible audience. We take seriously our responsibility as local broadcasters to provide programming that serves the interests of our communities, while also honoring our obligations to air national network programming. Over the last week, we have received thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders representing a wide range of perspectives."
Sinclair will resume airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its local affiliate stations beginning Friday, ending a nine-day suspension. Sinclair initially pulled the show after Kimmel's comments about the murder of Charlie Kirk, following similar action by Nexstar and prompting ABC to temporarily suspend the program. Sinclair demanded an apology, a “meaningful personal donation” to Kirk's family and Turning Point USA, and formal discussions with ABC. Kimmel returned without a full apology or evidence of donations. Sinclair later acknowledged its proposals were not adopted and reversed its preemption decision after receiving feedback.
