""I was afraid of being a vanity producerputting a stamp on something and didn't do any work and ride other people's coattails," he says. The other thing Liu was afraid of? Being too involved. "Being too much of a creative tyrant and inserting myself in places where I shouldn't be. Simply because of I am who I am, you have to listen to me. I wanted to avoid those situations. Simu Liu emigrated from Harbin, China to Ontario at age five and transitioned from accounting to acting, starring in Kim's Convenience and headlining Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He released a debut EP, ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT, in 2023. Liu executive-produces and stars in The Copenhagen Test, his first leading role in an action series, playing Alexander Hale, an analyst whose brain is hacked by an unknown enemy. Liu approached production cautious of two ego-driven errors: being a vanity producer who does no work and being an overbearing creative tyrant. He sought an equilibrium between involvement and restraint while continuing to learn in Hollywood.
