"This is going to be controversial because a lot of people love it,"
"But I'm going to vote ... Roanoke."
"I just don't care about this season at all. I know people will get mad at me for saying it, but to me, this was post having played Marcia [Clark, in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story], and it was what I went to do right after finishing Marcia, and I was so underwhelmed by the whole experience because I felt like I had entered into a new place inside of myself in terms of what I thought possible, in terms of what I might be willing to see if I can do,"
Sarah Paulson named American Horror Story: Roanoke her least-favourite season. She described feeling underwhelmed by the experience after completing her portrayal of Marcia Clark and entering a new artistic phase. Paulson reported feeling trapped by contractual obligations and creatively constrained while working on the season. Roanoke shifted the anthology’s format into a two-part structure, presenting a paranormal-documentary style followed by found-footage of a failed follow-up ending in tragedy. The season earned critical praise but divided the fandom. Paulson later said she wished she had asked to sit out the season because it did not meet her expectations.
