Ray Romano Promises Everybody Loves Raymond Will Never Be Rebooted
"Let's get one thing out of the way - this is a reunion."
"Not a reboot,"
"We're never going to do [a reboot], because we're missing three cast members, three family members. We'd never try to do the show without them."
"It wouldn't be the same. We have too much respect for the show itself and for the beautiful audience. ... And thankfully, the show is still on every day, all over the world."
Everybody Loves Raymond aired on CBS from 1996 to 2005 and won 15 Emmy Awards. Ray Romano and co-creator Phil Rosenthal reunited with surviving cast members for a 30th Anniversary Reunion special, explicitly framing the event as a reunion rather than a reboot. Three principal cast members—Peter Boyle, Doris Roberts, and Sawyer Sweeten—have died, and Romano said they would never attempt a reboot without them. Rosenthal said a reboot would not be the same and emphasized respect for the show and its audience. All nine seasons stream on Peacock and Paramount+, while other series from the era receive revival attention.
