Ray Brooks, the British actor famous for his roles in EastEnders and the children's show Mr Benn, has passed away at the age of 86. He died peacefully after a short illness, with family by his side. Brooks had been living with dementia in his later years. His family stated that he cherished family, Fulham Football Club, and Brighton, his birthplace. Mr Benn, narrated by Brooks, became iconic despite only 13 episodes. He also held roles in Coronation Street and numerous other television shows and films throughout his career.
Brooks died peacefully on Saturday with his loved ones at his bedside after a short illness, according to a statement shared by his family.
His three true loves were family, Fulham Football Club, and spending time in Brighton, where he was born.
The cartoon Mr Benn, narrated by Brooks, follows the character who enters a magical costume shop and travels to new places based on the costumes he wears.
I used to have a couple of pints before recording it, to numb my brain for his terrible rhymes, Brooks told the Guardian in 2017.
