Outlander Season-Premiere Recap: Guess Who's Back?
"Welcome to Savannah, Georgia, in 1779. Last time we saw Jamie and Claire, they had just survived the Battle of Monmouth up in New Jersey in 1778. So some time has passed since Claire almost died of a gunshot wound and Jamie taught us all that resigning from the Army by way of a note written in your wife's blood is a viable option."
"It seems the Frasers have been using this time since Monmouth to dig a little deeper into the biggest mystery season seven left us with: Could their baby who they believe to have been stillborn in Paris actually survived? Is Faith alive? Claire and Jamie certainly believe so. The evidence they're making that leap from is, of course, Frances Pocock."
Outlander's eighth and final season opens with Claire committing a shocking murder in Savannah, Georgia, in 1779, following the Frasers' survival of the Battle of Monmouth in New Jersey the previous year. The premiere features a new rendition of the Skye Boat Song by Annie Lennox. Claire and Jamie have spent time since Monmouth investigating their central mystery: whether their daughter Faith, believed stillborn in Paris, actually survived. They pursue this investigation through Frances Pocock, the younger sister of Jane, a sex worker connected to William. Jane's tragic death by suicide in jail and William's subsequent request to Jamie to care for Fanny sets up complex plot threads involving William's identity crisis and mysterious details emerging about Fanny.
