Julia and Henry's storyline generates intense emotional pain because Claire will most likely never meet her parents, creating an irreversible sense of loss. The characters' charm, intellect, and romance amplify the tragedy of their separation and the missed reunion. Henry is unknowingly sending letters to the home where Julia lives, while the Grants dismiss and insult efforts to reconnect. Simon Fraser reacts with outrage and vows to find a way to convince the Grants. The situation combines near-reunion hope, miscommunication, and the cruelty of missed chances, intensifying the audience's sorrow and investment.
At times, the Julia/Henry side of Blood of My Blood can be incredibly painful to watch, in the absolute best way. (We love TV that makes us suffer, there is no denying it now, friends.) It's painful for a few reasons. Obviously, we can only work with what we know at this point, and that means we have to assume Claire never meets her parents.
So, most likely, there's no shot Claire gets to spend time with her parents, and that thought alone only makes me more depressed, the more we learn about Julia and Henry. She would've loved these two! Their ingenuity, their intellect, the way they can make everything so goddamned romantic. I mean, Julia turning a discussion of post-World War I lotteries into one about hope? That's talent right there. Claire would get it.
