Netflix ordered ten half-hour episodes of a reboot of A Different World centered on Hillman College. Maleah Joi Moon stars as Deborah Wayne, the free-spirited daughter of Dwayne and Whitney, enrolling at the same historically Black college. The cast includes Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall and Kennedi Reece. Felicia Pride will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Debbie Allen will direct three episodes, including the premiere. Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Mandy Summers and Tom Werner join as executive producers. The reboot aims to reimagine the series for current and new generations.
